So near yet so far

The Gathering has won the Booker Prize for this year beating out Indra Sinha’s Animal’s People. I was rooting for Indra as he is a friend and a co-supporter of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy survivor’s struggle for complete justice. The book has finally found a publisher in the United States and it will soon be available in a bookstore near you. If you are interested in buying the book, please do so from www.indrasinha.com and he would donate a part of the price to the Bhopal Medical Appeal which provides free health care for the people affected by the tragedy and are yet to see any good medical care from the Government.

Animal’s People is a fiction woven around the victims of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. My sincere request to people is not look at it as a grim and depressing read because it certainly is not. It is overflows with humor and is refreshingly honest account of the life of a boy who walks on all fours like an animal due to the exposure to the gas in the aftermath of the disaster. You are not human if you have not fallen in love with Animal by the time you put the book down.
